"Another Season" and Fish Report by Rex Coburn, March 28, 2005

With the worst of the winter weather now behind us, the Marina will open as of April 1. Our facility will pretty much operate status quo for this season, with the exception being the installation of hydro, hopefully before the middle of May. We expect to have electrical connections available to a few lots as well as our office this season.

For those of you who come to Port Renfrew via Lake Cowichan, the other notable news is that the Ministry of Transportation and Highways has now taken over ownership and maintenance of the Harris Creek Main, and are currently making long needed improvements to the road.

The other off season news is that Bud and I have finally secured our tenure to the site. A new corporation owned 50% by Bud and myself, and 50% by the Pacheedaht, have purchased the site from Timberwest. Port Renfrew Marina and RV Park Ltd. will then lease the site back, so we are finally able to get on with the much needed improvements. We have already begun a development planning process which will lead to an arrangement where we will be selling interests in the Marina and campground to individuals, possibly by the end of the year.

Noel and Pat have once again taken up residence at the Marina, and Noel tells me the dungeness crab are already in the Bay. And Dwayne Isaac is back at it again, having already landed one Swiftsure halibut. As a reminder, those of you who were seasonal members last year. you have until May 1 to ensure the same spot you had last year. Also, the winter storms have shifted the sands at the river mouth. So everyone should use caution when entering or leaving the river mouth, and please remember and adhere to the 5mph speed limit in the river.

Thanks, and we look forward to seeing you all soon. Rex Coburn, Port Renfrew Marina
