Port Renfrew Marina Report, August 2, 2012

Here is it August already and the fishing at Port Renfrew Marina for Chinooks has really picked up along the shore. Camper Creek was the hot spot Sunday through to Tuesday with three and four hour bites. Lots of regulars were commenting that it was” just like the old days.” Lots of limit catches of nice fish coming to the docks. Anchovies and coyote spoons being the lure of choice.

Coho are still around in huge numbers out about one mile from shore. Hoochies in green and white are working well.

Swiftsure Banks “chicken ranch” is still producing limit catches of everything and the weather has been calm enough for just about all boats out there to go and enjoy the harvest.

Important Dates:  Port Renfrew Marina will be having it’s 15th annual Labor Day Derby this Sept 1st and 2nd.  All proceeds of this derby go to the San Juan Hatchery which has not had any additional funding from the government since 1992.  This a popular derby and includes a dinner, beverages and a live band. More information will be available soon.

Port Renfrew Marina will also be having it’s annual Coho derby on Sept 29th and 30th this year. The fee is $25.00, $5.00 of which will go the S J Hatchery and the rest will be a “Winner Take All” This can be an amazing amount and the winnings are based on the amount of entries.
