Port Renfrew Marina Report Aug.19/12

At Port Renfrew Marina the mid August fishing is in full swing. Every day sees lots of happy anglers lining up at the cleaning tables. Hot weather, calm seas and some welcome fog free days made conditions almost perfect.

With Owen Point closed East Point is seeing a lot of pressure but is producing lots of fish in the early morning and evenings. Walbran is still the hot spot and is quite the zoo with too many boats in too small a space. The 60 degree edge is where the fish have been holding. So if you have some thick skin, give it a try.

Coho are still well offshore but are getting bigger. Halibut fishing has died swiftly. There seems to be none on the “chicken ranch” and only the odd one coming on anchor. You will need to put in some serious time commitments to get your one. The last two weeks of August are traditionaly very good weeks to anchor. We hope that holds true for this year.
